May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has filed a lawsuit at the Lagos State High Court against her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, Yinka Omolola Theisen, the ex-girlfriend of Linc Edochie, and several unidentified social media users over alleged cyberbullying, defamation and online harassment.
She is also seeking an order directing major social media platforms to disclose the identities of anonymous account holders to assist with ongoing investigations.
In a 126-paragraph affidavit supporting the suit, May alleged that she has been subjected to a coordinated campaign of online attacks spanning several years across various blogs and Facebook pages.
She claimed the publications contained false allegations, manipulated photographs, insulting caricatures, AI-generated images and even death wishes aimed at tarnishing her image.
May also accused her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, of breaching attorney-client privilege by allegedly disclosing confidential information obtained during his legal representation of her and publishing defamatory content online.
The suit follows cease-and-desist letters issued by her current legal team demanding the removal of the alleged defamatory content, public retractions and apologies. However, she claims the harassment continued, with new social media pages allegedly being created to sustain the attacks.
Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has directed that all court processes be served on the defendants through all known contact channels. The matter has been adjourned pending the filing of a formal service report.
